The Omni Homestead: Where Our Family Found a Little Bit of Everything
As a family of six, finding a vacation spot that offers a perfect mix of relaxation, fun, and new experiences is the ultimate goal. The Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, VA, gave us all three and so much more. This iconic destination, which has welcomed guests since 1766, recently completed a stunning renovation, and it’s a beautiful blend of historic charm and modern luxury. With a two-acre water park, a fantastic kids’ club, and over 30 seasonal activities, it’s a paradise for families looking to reconnect and make lasting memories.
Here’s a look at what our summer getaway weekend included.
Day 1: A Grand Welcome and Elegant Beginnings
Upon driving onto the property, we were immediately captivated by the beautiful flowers and landscaping that framed the historic hotel. Stepping inside felt like a journey back in time, but with all the comforts of today. After a long drive from just outside Philadelphia, Matt and I were so thankful to receive a complimentary glass of champagne at check-in—the perfect way to begin our much-needed vacation.

From there, our family split up for some special moments. I took our daughter, Chloe, to a delightful Mommy-and-Me Formal Afternoon Tea in the Great Hall.

It was a proper and elegant affair, complete with finger sandwiches, scones, and beautiful piano music in the background. It was a truly lovely and peaceful way to start the weekend.
Meanwhile, Matt and the boys—Chase, Crew, and Chip—explored the resort’s expansive outdoor grounds, trying out classic lawn games like badminton, croquet, and lawn chess. You can find more details on these fun activities on the resort’s official Outdoor Activities page.

To cap off our first day, we worked up an appetite and enjoyed a delicious, relaxed dinner at Woody’s Restaurant, where the brick oven pizzas and fresh salads were a huge hit with the whole family.
Day 2: Horses, Hawks, and Heavenly Steaks
We kicked off our second morning with a quick and convenient breakfast at Martha’s Market, a charming cafe located right in the hotel lobby. It was our go-to spot for a quick bite before heading out for our day’s adventures.
Our first stop was a magical horse-drawn carriage ride, which we booked through the stables. Our family of six took a scenic journey through the wooded areas of the property. The kids loved exploring nature and we were thrilled to see tons of wildlife, including hawks, rabbits, and deer. Afterward, we headed back to the stables, where Crew and Chip were fascinated by the different horses.

Next up was lunch at Jefferson’s Taproom, followed by our favorite experience of the entire trip: a hands-on Falconry experience. Our expert guide, Max, gave us a hands-on look at the ancient art of training birds of prey. The kids were all in from the start!

After meeting Peanut, our hawk, we got to follow the bird into the woods, where he actually hunted and caught a chipmunk. The kids were completely engrossed in the experience, embracing the fascinating “circle of life” lesson. To cap off the adventure, all of us got to hold Peanut. Chase, Chloe, and Crew did a fantastic job, showing such confidence and bravery. Props to Max for being such a great guide and making the experience so memorable!
To beat the heat, we spent the afternoon at the Allegheny Springs water park, where the kids splashed and played with the gorgeous, historic hotel as our backdrop.

For dinner, we returned to Jefferson’s Restaurant for a phenomenal meal. I had the best filet steak of my life, and Matt couldn’t stop raving about his Wagyu steak with lobster. It was an unforgettable dining experience!
Day 3: A Water Park Grand Finale
On our final morning, we enjoyed another leisurely breakfast from Martha’s Market, bringing it back to our room to eat in the large sunroom. This was a favorite spot for our family, as we could relax and people-watch while the kids had space to play and unwind.

Our last big hurrah was a full day at the Allegheny Springs water park, where we splurged on a beautiful cabana. The two-acre park, with its lazy river and slides, was the perfect way to cap off our trip. It was the right mix of fun, firsts, and precious family time, and was such a beautiful spot to slow down for a few days together.
