This winter, we were so excited to return to Woodloch Resort for our third visit, a place that has become special to our family. Returning guests are a common sight here, as we’ve met families who have been coming back to Woodloch for generations to create cherished memories. Nestled in the heart of the Pocono Mountains, Woodloch has a way of making you feel at home while offering endless ways to connect and enjoy time together. From the amazing food to the unforgettable outdoor adventures, every visit feels like another chapter in a story we’re lucky to keep writing.
The Heart of Hospitality: A Warm Welcome
We made the trek from Philadelphia to Hawley, PA, arriving at Woodloch just in time for dinner Friday evening. As we stepped into the dining hall, we were immediately greeted by the warmth and hospitality that Woodloch is known for. The main doors were lined with staff members who welcomed each family with smiles and genuine enthusiasm. From the moment we entered, we were met with familiar faces and a comforting sense of belonging. Brooke James, a third-generation family member and VP of Sales, Marketing & Hospitality at Woodloch, personally welcomed us. She, along with many other family members, is what makes Woodloch so special. The pride they take in making each family’s experience truly exceptional shines through in every interaction.
That same welcome extended beyond the doors and into every part of our dining experience. This year, we were thrilled to reconnect with Connie, a server who made our winter 2023 stay unforgettable. Despite the hustle and bustle of the dining room, she paused to greet us with warm hugs, asked about each of our kids, and walked us to our table, where we met our server for the week, Ezequiel. As it turns out, Connie had trained Ezequiel herself! Originally from Argentina, Ezequiel immediately bonded with Chase over his Messi t-shirt, sparking a connection that set the tone for the rest of our stay.
Dining at Woodloch: A Culinary Experience Like No Other
Woodloch’s Dining Hall is more than just a place to eat; it’s where families gather, stories are shared, and memories are made. The consistent mealtimes and assigned tables ensure a sense of familiarity and community, making it easy to connect with other families and the incredible staff.
Dining at Woodloch is a seamless and enjoyable experience, thanks to the attentive and accommodating staff. With a team of friendly servers like Amanda and Carol, who went out of their way to engage with our family and kids, you’ll rarely have to wait for a refill, a small request, or any assistance you may need. Their proactive and thoughtful service added a personal touch, making meals even more special. This kind of hospitality allows you to fully relax and focus on what Woodloch is truly all about—spending quality time with friends and family, reminiscing about the day’s adventures, and creating new memories together.
The dining spaces are warm and inviting, designed to foster connection and comfort, while the menu offers a variety of fresh, flavorful, and indulgent options. While the delicious meals are certainly a highlight, it’s the seamless service and attention to detail that make the experience even more special.
At Woodloch, dining is more than just a meal; it’s an opportunity to unwind, laugh, and savor the moment with your loved ones, all while knowing every detail is taken care of for you.
The kids’ menu, featuring crowd-pleasers like chicken tenders, hot dogs, pizza, and mac & cheese, ensured that all our hungry kiddos were happy.
Chip took a particular liking to Woodloch’s fries—he just couldn’t get enough of them! With every bite, he had everyone at the table laughing, his enthusiasm for those perfectly cooked fries becoming a highlight of each meal. The Woodloch fries just hit different, and Chip made sure everyone knew it.
The highlight of each meal, however, wasn’t just the food but the sweet treats at the end. Whether it was Hot Chocolate, a clear favorite of Crew, or Mango Sorbet topped with sprinkles, loved by Chase and Chloe, dessert added a special touch to every gathering. These moments of joy and connection made every meal at Woodloch a cherished part of the day.
Post-Dinner Playtime: A Family Favorite
After dinner, the kids made a beeline for the Indoor Playground, a family favorite. Chip loved the padded play area, perfect for toddlers, while Chase, Chloe, and Crew burned off energy climbing and exploring. It’s these moments that truly capture the essence of Woodloch.
Saturday Adventures: Snow Tubing, Soccer, and Skating
Saturday morning began with a delicious breakfast featuring our all-time favorite: Woodloch’s crumb cake. Baked fresh in their on-site bakery, it’s so good we always make sure to take one home. On each table, there is a paper/pencil to place an order for any of Woodloch’s baked goods, allowing you to savor the magic of Woodloch’s baked goods at home.
Fueled up, we dressed the kids in their snow gear and headed to the Snow Tubing Hill. The rush of flying down the hill with the frozen Lake Teedyuskung as a backdrop is an absolute thrill. We made sure to arrive early, as this wintertime favorite fills up quickly!
From there, we explored the Kid’s Club, where Chase, Chloe, and Crew participated in a soccer shooting game. Their determination paid off when all three proudly earned Woodloch medals—precious keepsakes and a source of endless pride. The two young staff members made the games so fun and engaging for all the children involved.
Later, we introduced the kids to skating on Woodloch’s ice rink for their first experience of Ice Skating. With walkers available for beginners (yes, Matt might have used one too), it was a fantastic first-time experience.
The day wrapped up with Go Carts, where the kids zipped around the outdoor track. Due to the height requirement, each of the kids took a turn riding with Matt, while older kids were able to ride solo. The excitement on their faces was priceless as they sped around the track, and between rides, we stayed cozy by warming up next to one of the many campfires on the property. It was the perfect way to end our afternoon of fun and adventure.
Evening Fun: Bumper Cars and More
Dinner brought more deliciousness and heartfelt conversations with Ezequiel, who eagerly listened to the kids share their adventures. Afterward, we headed to the recently updated bumper cars. With new seats and lights, the experience was better than ever, and Chase couldn’t get enough. Seeing his joy was a highlight of our evening.
Sunday Highlights: Zombie Bowling and a Petting Zoo
Sunday morning began on a high note with a delicious breakfast, including all our favorites, before heading over to the gymnasium for a round of Zombie Bowling. This quirky and fun activity was an instant hit with the kids, who were eager to line up their best shots and rack up points. The excitement only grew as they competed for their second set of Woodloch medals, a prize that always brings out their competitive yet playful spirit.
The experience was made even more memorable thanks to Maxie, the event coordinator, who was fantastic. His witty jokes and enthusiasm were contagious as he kept the games engaging, offered tips, and celebrated their wins. Maxie’s playful banter and encouragement made the kids feel like stars, and his ability to engage with them on their level made a big impression.
What made the activity even more special was the sense of togetherness it created. We played alongside other families, each cheering for their kids and sharing in the collective joy of the game. The atmosphere was lighthearted and fun, and it became a bonding experience for everyone involved. Watching the kids celebrate their victories and congratulate their new friends was a heartwarming reminder of what makes Woodloch so unique—it’s not just about the activities, but about the connections and memories made along the way.
Next, we visited the outdoor petting zoo, where they adored pony rides and cuddling with goats, rabbits, and sheep. It’s such a thoughtful addition to Woodloch’s offerings and a hit with families.
Lunch marked the bittersweet end of our trip. True to his kind nature, Ezequiel surprised the kids with small toys and trinkets—a testament to Woodloch’s staff going above and beyond. Before heading home, we captured a group photo with Ezequiel, a memory we’ll treasure.
Why Woodloch Stands Out
What sets Woodloch apart is its ability to make every guest feel like family. Whether it’s a server like Connie stopping for a heartfelt chat or a thoughtful gesture from someone like Ezequiel, the staff’s dedication creates an experience that’s second to none.
Beyond the impeccable service, Woodloch’s blend of activities, delicious dining, and family-friendly atmosphere makes it the ultimate getaway. From snow tubing to bumper cars, indoor playgrounds to scrumptious crumb cake, every detail is designed to create moments of joy and connection.
