Our Experience with Guardian Bikes: Building Confidence and Having Fun

Our kids were extremely excited about the opportunity to ride bikes. In search of a safe option that would give them confidence to ride and keep them safe, we turned to Guardian Bikes. We recently got two Guardian bikes for our kids: Chase, who is 5 years old and now proudly rides a 20″ bike in his favorite color red, and Chloe, who is 4 years old and thrilled with her 16″ bike in her favorite color pink. Leading up to getting Guardian bikes, they had minimal experience with riding bikes. The only other wheeled toy we had was a tricycle that was rarely used, so this truly put Guardian Bikes to the test.

First Night: Getting Started with Guardian Bikes

On the first night, we fitted each child to their bike, making the necessary adjustments to their seats, helmets, and more. We then got them familiar with sitting on the bike and getting a feel for balance. Holding the stationary bike with them on it, we let go so they could put their feet down on either side to get familiar with catching themselves. From there, we took it to our slightly sloped driveway, where they could practice riding 20-30 feet. They were very excited and working toward their goal, but as soon as Chloe hit a wall, we stopped for the night so she wouldn’t lose interest. We spent about 45 minutes during our first session. The kids loved practicing and talked about it all night, asking when they could ride again.

Second Night: Progress and Achievements

The following night, we dropped our youngest kids, Chip and Crew, off with the grandparents, while we took our bikes to a local school parking lot where the kids could safely ride in a large, open area. Following closely behind them, we quickly found that Chase was very close to riding on his own. He switched from his 20″ bike to his sister’s 16″ bike, as he wanted to try it out. The smaller bike ended up working for him, so he went for it, while Chloe got a few reps on the “big kid bike.” After a few runs back and forth, Chase finally “kept pedaling” as we encouraged him several times before. He rode for 10-15 seconds all by himself. We were so excited for him and he was so proud of himself. Once he had a successful run under his belt, he asked to go again, this time with minimal support.
