Busy Bodies Play Cafe

I recently took a day trip to Lancaster, PA to visit with some family friends and for our 5 kids to get together once more before our newest addition arrives this fall.  We decided to check out Busy Bodies Play Cafe because it was a convenient meeting point but also because it fit the needs of our kids (ages 1-5).

Endless Play Possibilities: The space is designed with developmentally appropriate play sets and various imagination stations.  There is also a book library, hands on sensory locations, and a separate gated play area for anyone bringing an infant (1 year or younger).

The space is set up so that you can easily keep an eye on your child from the lounge area or snack tables.  You are also invited to join them in the play areas as long as you follow the “only socks” policy or use their complimentary shoe covers.  I chose the shoe covers because this pregnant mama was not going through the shoe changing process if it wasn’t necessary.  This was the first indoor playground I have been to that gave that option, and it was appreciated.

Food and Drink: You are able to bring in your own food and drink so that you can take snack breaks, or even give your kids lunch depending on the time you reserved.  They also had plenty of snacks and drinks available to purchase.

There are also highchairs available for any infants that may need one.

Flexible Play Options: Busy Bodies Play Cafe offered us two ways to enjoy the indoor playground: Open Play and Drop-in Play. During the week, schedule an Open Play session at 10:00am, 12:30pm, or 3:00pm and enjoy 2 hours of playtime for your little ones. The cost is $15 per child, adults are free.

On the weekends, you have the freedom of Drop-in Play, which does not require a reservation. However, be prepared for the possibility of a full house, as many families take advantage of this option.  There may also be a private party scheduled during the weekend times.

Party Destination: Busy Bodies Play Cafe caters to parties on the weekends and the team will help take care of every detail.  Their packages can include balloon garlands, themed decorations, food & drinks, and someone to help setup/tear down.  Their obvious attention to detail is a testament to their commitment to creating memories for visiting families.

Check out their party packages here.

Enrichment and Community: Busy Bodies Play Cafe also offers enrichment classes and family-focused events, including arts, crafts, music, and more, and adds a layer of learning and interaction to their business. The diverse range of classes caters to various interests, and if you’re local (or passing through the area) you are sure to find something that fits your family’s interests.

Miscellaneous: I also want to note how clean the entire space was from the moment we walked in to the minute we left. The workers were keeping the toys and stations organized so that kids could easily locate items and the bathrooms were immaculate. If I weren’t visiting with a friend, I would have needed to take all 3 of my kids to the bathroom together anytime someone needed to go, and if that were the case, I at least could count on the space being cleaned and not scrambling to keep their hands off of all the surfaces.

This was such an amazing morning spent catching up with friends and giving our kids space to play together.  It would be a great destination to keep in mind if you are visiting one of the many Lancaster attractions.  If you need a stimulation break, or the weather isn’t in your favor, scheduling a last minute Open Play would give your family the opportunity to get their wiggles out while the adults can relax for a bit.
